I'm starting a new blog category called "Making It" where I can talk about my Hollywood pursuits in both writing and acting.  My goal is to be a screenwriter, and I would love to use this space to talk a little bit more about my journey since it is such a huge part of my life.

"Making It" is not just to keep you guys updated on my writing and acting progress, but also to encourage myself to keep making, creating and trying new things.  Because you can't make it unless you work for it.

When your boyfriend asks you, "can you take a week off from work, so we can go to Hawaii?"  The answer is always, "YES.  I'll buy a hat!"  Which is basically how our trip to Kauia was planned.

I've been loving flower nail art lately.  This design feels so whimsical and perfect for Spring/Summer.  I had these nails done at Olive & June before leaving for my vacation to Hawaii ((which I will post about soon!)).  The colors and design kept reminding me of a cup or saucer you would find at Anthropologie.

I was the maid of honor in my best friend's wedding this past weekend.  And one of the maid of honor's biggest duties is planning the bachelorette party.  Planning the party weekend was a bigger challenge than I had expected.  Here is everything we did, and a few helpful tips that I learned along the way.

1988 - Me when I had life figured out.
ALLERGIES - I'm allergic to cats.  Which sucks because I really like cats.  For my 7th birthday my parents bought me black and white cat.  I named her Sylvester after my favorite Looney Toon character.  That's when we found out I was allergic to cats, and one day Sylvester "ran away".  (I promise this whole list won't be depressing!)

There's SO much to watch on TV.  And since my goal is to become a TV writer, I try to watch as much as possible.  Here's what I'm watching now:

Who is AD?!  Will Spencer get back together with Toby??  Will the girls ever be friends with Mona? ((I know Mona is crazy, but you can't deny that she's awesome.))  And with just a dozen episodes left, we will find out all the answers soon.  Who else has been addicted to this show for years?  AH!  So good!

Need a few new photos in your Insta feed?  Here are 10 of my favorite accounts to follow!

Ralph and George are best friends, but Ralph runs the show.  They are so stinkin' cute!  I'm a little bit obsessed.  #iwantadog

Barbie always looks fab hanging with her friends around LA.  #iwantherlife

WonderCon is this weekend, so I thought I'd get a little geeky with my nails.  I decided on a Batgirl design since she's my favorite superhero.

Is "perfectionist" a dirty word?

I used say, "I'm a perfectionist," like it was a badge of honor.  But as I get older I'm noticing the times when perfectionism is a positive attribute and times when it's not.

Best qualities of a perfectionist:

If you're a perfectionist, then you probably never turn in a project or assignment half-assed.  You give everything your best effort, and you're usually rewarded for it.

You have high standards to yourself, and you never accept anything less.  If given a choice between something hard and something easy, you will always take the harder way even if it takes you longer.

“Women and girls have always faced hurdles. But that’s never stopped us. We’ve sacrificed, fought, campaigned, succeeded, been knocked back, and succeeded again. In a race for justice, we’ve leapt over countless obstacles to win our rights.” - Emma Watson

If you spend a lot of time in your car like I do, then you probably have different ways to past the time.  One of my favorites is to listen to audio books.  Here are a few that I loved:

By Jenn Sincero

This is an empowering self-help book about improving your life and reaching goals.  Listening to this book on audio will make you feel like Jenn Sincero is your own personal life coach.  This book gave me the courage to sign up for improv classes.  I honestly can't tell you how motivational it is to listen to 30 minutes of this book in the morning before work.  By the time I got to my desk I would feel like - hell yeah!  I'm going to crush this day!

Like many people living in LA, my day job is not – what I like to call – my life job.  A life job is the job you are working towards but are not currently getting paid for.  My life job is screenwriting, and I’ve been working towards turning that life job into a real job for the past four years.

It’s officially February, which means the Nickelodeon Writing Fellowship applications are due at the end of the month (on my birthday!).  For those who are not living the amateur screenwriter life, the Nickelodeon Writing Fellowship is one of the biggest TV writing fellowships out there.  It offers new writers a year-long PAID fellowship, and it has the potential to kick-start a writer’s career in TV.  I’ve been working on a spec episode of BoJack Horseman for my application, but I’m struggling to get through my third draft.  I’ve reached the point where I’ve looked at my script so many times that it doesn’t feel fresh anymore, and I’m getting frustrated.
So I ask you – what do you do to keep yourself motivated?

The Disneyland Resort (1 of 2)

This past year, my goal was to run all four half marathons at Disneyland.  A couple of weeks ago I completed the Star Wars Half Marathon, which checks off three out of four of my runs.  I ran this race solo with two hurt knees, but it was the most fun I’ve ever had at a race.  It was probably my favorite run because I didn’t put any pressure on myself.  I knew I wasn’t going to make a good time, so I decided to stop for pictures along the way.

Improv is one of the hardest, scariest, most embarrassing things that I have ever done.  So then why do it?  I signed up for my first improv class last October for a few reasons that were very important to me.

One – My writing.  Improv forces you to think on your feet.  When I’m writing I tend to over think things -- and sometimes it’s necessary -- but other times I’m just spinning my wheels for no reason.  (For example, I’ve seriously spent too much time drafting this post.)  Also, a lot of comedy writers come from improv, so it can only help!
